The mission of the East Carolina University (ECU) College of Education is the preparation of professional educators and allied practitioners, including professionals in counseling, adult education, instructional technology, and librarianship. Significant to this mission is a strong commitment to three important related areas, all of which are realized through partnerships and other endeavors. These three areas are:
    1. the encouragement and nurturing of professional growth for educators and allied practitioners at all levels and in all areas of the educational endeavor;
    2. a continuing emphasis on and support for scholarship and research/creative activity;
    3. and service in all areas of professional education.
To achieve its vision, the College of Education is guided in its action by the University strategic planning process which includes providing innovative programs and certifications to address state and regional workforce needs, along with collaborating with regional partners to establish accessible and affordable pathways to our College of Education programs, creating a seamless transition for aspiring educators into our institution and back to regional schools and districts as qualified professional educators after completion. Some goals for this strategic plan would include but are not limited to the following:

1. Increasing enrollments across programs and certificates within the College of Education
2. Increasing study away opportunities for our College of Education students
3. Increasing graduation rates
4. Working to reduce student debt for graduate and undergraduate students in the College of Education.
 
The Department of Educational Leadership in the College of Education at East Carolina University is seeking applicants for a tenure-track, nine-month, full-time assistant professor faculty position beginning Fall 2025. The candidate will balance teaching, research, and service related to Educational Leadership in PK12 settings. The candidate will (1) teach working professionals in PK12 leadership programs and/or higher education leadership programs offered by the Department of Educational Leadership: Master of School Administration (MSA), Education Specialist (EdS), and Doctor of Education (EdD), (2) engage an active research agenda including potential for external funding, (3) connect teaching, research, and service to leadership practice in PK12, and/or higher education settings, (4) serve as dissertation chair and committee member for students in the EdD program, (5) provide service to the university and to rural eastern North Carolina schools, and (6) actively engage with professional organizations at the state (e.g., NCASA and NCPEL) and national (e.g., UCEA and CPED) levels.
